Major earthquake hits western Colombia, with damage and injuries reported in several cities

A powerful 7.4-magnitude earthquake struck Colombia on Monday morning, sending strong tremors across large parts of the country and prompting evacuations in several cities. The earthquake struck at around 7:34 a.m. local time, according to Colombian authorities.
The epicentre was reported in San José del Palmar in Chocó Department, in western Colombia. The shaking was felt strongly in cities including Bogotá, Cali, Pereira, Manizales and Quibdó, as well as in parts of neighbouring countries.
Reports indicated damage to buildings in several locations, while authorities and emergency services were assessing the extent of the destruction. Injuries were also reported, with officials warning that further assessments would be required as emergency teams reached affected areas.
In Bogotá, residents evacuated buildings after strong shaking was felt across the capital. Authorities were also monitoring infrastructure and possible aftershocks following the main earthquake.
The powerful tremor was felt across western and central Colombia, making it one of the country's strongest recent earthquakes. Emergency authorities continued to assess damage and coordinate response operations in affected communities.
